I Tried a Grape Fast

Hey everyone,

Our time is precious, so thank you for carving out some of yours and visiting my blog. Grape fasting is a subject that caught my eye during my past year of research. I had learned about it from sources such as Dr. Robert Morse, Daniel Reid, The Grape Cure, among other YouTube personalities and authors. I kept finding excuses not to try it. I finally caved and did one this past week.

Now, I’m sure that going longer would have been even more beneficial, but even going 5 and a half days I was very impressed. Extended fasts are always the way to go to truly detox and heal yourself. Going a week to even months has profound effects. According to Dr. Robert Morse, grape fasting is among the best detox methods along with the Master Cleanser program or a juice fast. I’m inclined to agree just from my short stint. Perhaps, down the road I will experiment with an extended grape fast and the Master Cleanser program.

Some of Dr. Morses’ followers and clients go over 100 days and are ridding themselves of the gnarly mucoid plaque I’ve discussed in previous posts and recovering from diseases as bad as cancer. The book The Grape Cure is a story about author Johanna Brandt in 1925 curing her cancer eating nothing but 2-4 pounds of grapes per day for an extended period of time. Crazy. Once I heard this I had to give it a shot to see how it felt. Remember, everyone’s physiology is equipped with their own set of strengths and weaknesses. There’s no way of telling how long one should go to heal and detox when fasting. We just need to listen to our bodies.

Why Grapes?

Grapes have been known in Eastern circles to be one of the most potent of all medicinal foods. The darker the grape the more potent and effective it’ll be for cleansing and detoxification. If constipated, then I recommend jumping on a grape feast for a few days at least. The beauty of grapes is that they are almost pure glucose. Brain fuel. The glucose, fructose, and levulose are immediately absorbed into the bloodstream allowing for the kidneys, liver, blood, and digestive tract to be cleansed and purified. We live in an age where chronic acidosis is quite common, and grapes are one of the best foods for alkalizing the bloodstream and getting us back to equilibrium.

How Do We Get Started?

It’s recommended that you don’t eat 24-48 hours prior to starting. Go for the sweet spot in the middle at 36 if you can’t make it to 48. Eat dinner Saturday, skip food Sunday, then start up on Monday morning with the grapes. Then again, it all depends on the person. Me, I went for three days of water fasting. I really wanted to make sure that everything was cleared out and my body was primed for detoxification. I’ll discuss water fasting in another post, but just know that I could have gone longer if I hadn’t planned on doing the grape fast.

What Should We Eat & How Much?

Just eat until you’re almost full, then eat once you’re hungry again. Seems pretty simple. In between meals, it’s recommended to have some lemon water. I took hot lemon water, but it’s all preference. The lemon juice will aid in loosening the mucoid plaque in the digestive tract. We should aim for 2-4 pounds of grapes of the dark variety per day. The darker, the more potent. Trust me, you will be full. If 4 pounds don’t cut it for you, then feel free to eat more.

The Details & Results

Forewarning, I’m going to get into the digestive details here. There was a lot of loose activity the first 2-2.5 days. Days 3-5 there was more solid activity, especially in the mornings. I’m guessing that the bulk of the fiber was starting to catch up to the gunk stuck in the colon and began pushing it out. My energy levels were through the roof. Days 3-5 I was working out twice a day and felt I could keep going after finishing each workout. I lost 5 pounds in 5 days, and I felt light and clear minded. My sleep was great, and it didn’t seem like I needed my normal 7-8 hours. I was very impressed to say the least, and I recommend to anyone to give this a try. Push for 5 or more days if you’re able. I felt better as the days progressed.

My biggest takeaway was the mental clarity. It really got me thinking about carbohydrate consumption and fruit. That was the first time I went on a mono-fruit detox plan, and I can definitely see the benefits of doing so. The brain runs on glucose. We have to remember that. Either the fruits we eat provide the glucose, the carbohydrates we eat are broken down and converted to glucose, or the liver converts its stored glycogen into glucose- secreting it into the bloodstream to be fed to the brain. Ideally, we should avoid that third option.

Do yourself a favor and keep consuming carbs! Not to be confused with starchy carbs (bread, pasta, and rice), but our fruits, leafy greens, and veggies. We don’t want to starve our brain from its primary fuel source. If your brain needs a boost or if you’re feeling foggy and in need of a detox, then try a grape fast!

Food for thought!
